NHTrust Supports Neighbor Helping Neighbor Fund

NHTrust is pleased to be able to contribute $3,000 to the Neighbor Helping Neighbor Fund, Inc. (NHN), established with five Community Action Agencies (CAAs) to help New Hampshire residents struggling to pay their energy bills. The money will be used to help those who may be facing an energy emergency but don’t qualify for federally funded energy assistance programs.

NHN is a nonprofit charitable organization founded in 1986 with the express purpose of helping those who might be experiencing financial difficulties to meet their basic utility needs without interruption. The organization is made up of representatives from three participating utilities, Eversource Energy, Unitil, and Liberty Utilities along with the five CAAs across the state. The program was named in keeping with the New Hampshire tradition of neighbors helping each other.

“We are so appreciative of this donation from NHTrust,” noted Matthew Fossum, President of NHN. “The money comes at a time when we are going into winter and the holidays and peoples’ finances are already stretched thin. This generous contribution will go a long way to helping support our neighbors less fortunate who may be facing disconnect notices from their electric or natural gas utilities.”

NHN works with the CAAs in the state who take the applications for assistance and determine who is eligible for a supporting grant. The electric and gas utilities ask their customers for contributions to the fund and match these contributions up to a predetermined amount as well as pay for all the fund’s administrative expenses. Grantees have the payments go directly to the utility on their behalf. If you know someone who needs assistance, or you yourself require support, applications for the NHN Fund are taken at all the outreach offices of New Hampshire’s Community Action Agencies. If you’d like to contribute to the funds, there are a number of ways to provide support. Please go to the Neighbor Helping Neighbor website at nhnfund.org for options.
